The average boy will “shadow box” in front of a mirror or hang the gloves as decoration for his room or bedpost. But if the boy is named Emanuel Steward, the boxing gloves are a ticket to a career in boxing and the predecessor to a thriving contemporary business.
At eight years old, Emanuel was already a tough kid who liked to fight with the other boys in his hometown area of Bottom Creek, West Virginia. Emanuel and his Christmas boxing gloves were seldom separated.
When the local boys no longer wanted to box with Emanuel, he made his own punching bags at home…
